Coach Nelson started her coaching career in 1999 as an assistant at Diablo Valley College. Coach Nelson worked there as an assistant for 2 years before returning to school to receive her master’s in Sport Psychology. In 2003 Coach Nelson worked as an intern at COM as a sport psychology consultant for the women’s basketball team. That year Nelson had the opportunity to work under Mike Fulton, and a team that played in the JC State Championships. During the spring of 2003 Nelson took a job as an assistant at Dominican University under Scott Davis. During Nelson’s 2 years at Dominican she was a part of 2 National Tournament appearances and 2 Conference Titles. In 2003-2004 Dominican finished the season 29-9. In 2004-2005 the team went 30-4 and were ranked 5th nationally in the NAIA polls. Nelson is in her second season at College of Marin.
As part of the Strictly Hoops family, Nelson is usually at the head of our Varsity team, where she has led a number of student-athletes to win numerous tournaments in her eight years with the club.
Coach Nelson graduated from Cal State Northridge (where she plaved) with a BA in Sociology, minor in Criminology. Nelson also received her Master’s in Sport Psychology in 2004 from John F. Kennedy University. Nelson currently works as a Mental Health Counselor in Concord and resides in Vallejo, CA. |
